Red Arrow announces early-morning airport shuttle

Local residents flying out of the Calgary International Airport will soon have an early-morning option to get them there.

Red Arrow Motorcoach is introducing a connector service between Red Deer and the Calgary airport. Beginning Monday, June 10, a 14-passenger shuttle will depart from the iHotel at 6500 67th St. at 6:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and arrive at the airport at 8 a.m.

New private terminal in the works at Edmonton International Airport

EDMONTON – The company behind the Edmonton Shell Aerocentre is building another private terminal at Edmonton International Airport.

“We are excited to have a new facility to offer to aircraft owners,” said David Robertson, president of YEG Shell Aerocentre Inc. “I am optimistic to have the facility operational by Nov. 1, 2013, but we’ll see what the weather brings.”

Edmonton International Airport unveils new tower

EDMONTON – There’s a vague resemblance between a space-age food processor and Edmonton International Airport’s new central tower.

Airport staff showed off the inside of the unconventional-looking tower on Thursday, the new eight-storey digs capped by a new and improved air traffic control room with plenty of bright office space underneath.

Concept design for potential Parkland Airport developed

Plans for a new airport in Parkland County are taking flight, fuelled by a series of open houses designed to promote community interest in the project.

The first took place Saturday, April 27 at the Spruce Grove Pioneer Centre, drawing out a crowd of 60 residents. Led by the Parkland Airport Development Corporation, this venture is a private initiative with the purpose of replacing the City Centre Airport, which is preparing for closure.

Calgary International Airport hits record year for passengers

CALGARY — For the first time in its history, the Calgary Airport Authority is reporting annual revenue exceeding $300 million in 2012 as a record was also set for the most passengers ever through the facility.

The Calgary International Airport saw 13.6 million passengers last year or 37,000 a day, the authority announced Thursday at its annual general meeting.

Curved pedway will connect Edmonton International Airport terminal to new hotel

EDMONTON  Air travellers landing at Edmonton International Airport will soon be able to check into a hotel without putting on a coat no matter the weather.

Crews using a crane on Friday installed the first of two 24-metre prefabricated sections of a heated, raised pedway that will connect the north end of the departures area of the terminal to the Renaissance hotel, under construction to the north.

Petition asks airport restaurant plans to be reconsidered

To eat, or not to eat, is the question city staff members will ponder as they take advanced designs for proposed airport terminal expansion back to the community over the next month.

The issue of a full service restaurant was again discussed at Wednesday’s meeting of the Development and Infrastructure meeting but was tabled after a petition of 400 names was presented by airport businesses asked that the restaurant be reconsidered.
