New report compares Lethbridge economic growth with other mid-sized cities

The Conference Board of Canada recently released its Mid-Sized Cities Outlook 2013. The report will give business and government leaders data necessary to make decisions about local industry and economy.

“For a number of years, we have been encouraging the economic think tanks to create this kind of report as deeper economic trends require strong understanding of core impacts over time,” says Economic Development Lethbridge Chief Executive Officer Cheryl Dick. “Going forward, this will help us to better understand and compare our competitive environment and interpret the trends for the future.”

Calgary region housing starts stable compared with last year

CALGARY— Housing starts in the Calgary region remained at the same level as a year ago in October, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

The agency reported Thursday that total starts in the Calgary census metropolitan area of 980 were down just one unit compared with October 2011. Single-detached units rose by eight per cent during the month to 440 units while multi-family starts dipped by six per cent to 540.
