Better economic times ahead

An economist with Servus Credit Union is predicting better times ahead for Alberta.

Mike Drotar, vice-president treasury with the credit union, says the province should manage 2.7 per cent growth this year and 3.4 per cent in 2014 — both well above the anticipated national averages of 1.8 per cent in 2013 and 2.6 per cent the following year.

Servus to share millions

Servus Credit Union plans to share a little Christmas cheer with its members next month — nearly $46 million worth.

The member-owned financial institution announced on Thursday that it will distribute $45.8 million under its profit share program this year. The money is expected to be deposited into members’ accounts the first week of December, said Ian Glassford, Servus’s chief financial officer.

Council gets first look at Servus expansion

Growth over the last three years in use of different parts of Servus Credit Union Place has reached a plateau and the facility needs to consider expansion in order to make room for current and future members, its manager says.

Diane Enger, facility director for Servus Place, took city council through the conceptual plan for expansion during Monday’s council meeting, showing the areas of highest demand and how the facility could expand to meet future needs.
