US Energy Infrastructure Fails to Keep Pace with Boom

America’s energy infrastructure is in dire straits and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has given it a D+ in a “report card” that measures everything from the electricity grid’s transmissions capacity to oil and gas distribution channels.

The whole premise of the report is that there is progress, but we’re only half way there.

Alberta cleaning up energy generation

The Redford government is crafting a renewable and alternative energy framework that will govern wind, solar and geothermal electricity generation in Alberta starting next year.

An Alberta Energy presentation at the National Renewable Energy Forum last month shows the province plans to consult Albertans and draft a policy framework in 2013, then “commence implementation” in 2014.

Vermilion Energy reports record cash flow in Q1

CALGARY — International intermediate Vermilion Energy Inc. reported record cash flow in the first quarter of 2013 of $164 million or $1.61 per share compared with $151 million or $1.64 a year earlier.

It posted net earnings of $52 million compared with $65 million in the first quarter of 2012, as production fell to 38,700 barrels of oil equivalent per day from 39,300 a year earlier.

Alberta energy firms want oil, natural gas processed in the province

EDMONTON – A report says Alberta would create jobs and take in $600 million in annual revenues if more oil and natural gas were processed in the province instead of shipping it to other jurisdictions.

The report by a University of Calgary economist was commissioned by a group of municipalities and energy companies in the Edmonton region known as Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association.
