Foreign cash is OK, foreign control is not, energy firms say

EDMONTON-China’s financial role in the Alberta oilpatch — injecting more than $15 billion for investment and acquisitions over the past three years — is not seen as a problem by industry players.

Speaking Thursday in Edmonton on the second and final day of the National Buyer Seller Forum, three executives agreed Canada alone doesn’t have the financial ability to fund the large projects.

Iveson suggests putting entire southeast-to-southwest Edmonton LRT line out to tender

EDMONTON- The city could use a combination of borrowing, redirecting money from other sources and a three-year tax hike to build the southeast LRT line, a new report says.

But the $1.8-billion project will still need a $1-billion contribution from the federal and provincial governments, and that request could be challenging, chief financial officer Lorna Rosen said Wednesday.
