Rocky View County (RVC) council approved the rezoning of a piece of land in the northwest area of the county near the Hamlet of Madden to accommodate a new golf course, boutique hotel and individual cabins.
Council approved the move by a 7-2 vote on Nov. 6, with Bearspaw councillor Al Sacuta voting for this time around after being against the same motion a year prior.

EDMONTON – Edmonton will lose a downtown hotel as Coast Edmonton House converts to an apartment building by late next year.
“It’s a business decision by the owners of the building,” said Craig Norris-Jones, vice-president of operations for Coast Hotels and Resorts Canada. “With the increased demand for residential housing in the downtown core and the large suites that the building offers, this change from hotel to residential provides the optimal use of the asset.”

EDMONTON- SilverBirch Hotels and Resorts is pouring $60 million into the Mayfield Inn and Suites to turn the local landmark into an international player.
The Vancouver-based company is redeveloping its 40-year-old Mayfield property in the west end into two facilities: Edmonton’s first DoubleTree by Hilton hotel and Canada’s first Home2 Suites by Hilton, an extended-stay inn, SilverBirch and Hilton Worldwide announced Tuesday.
