Cookie-cutter approach flawed

The Shawnee Slopes Golf Course Saga, Pt. 1 came to a close on Feb. 11 in city council chambers with a 10 to 4 vote in favour of the land use re-designation for residential development.

The saga started 4.5 years ago when Geo-Energy Enterprises (Geo) purchased the golf course with the intent of designing and developing a Plan-It-Calgary-Perfect community, but residents of Shawnee and Evergreen represented by the Shawnee-Evergreen Community Association (SECA) were anything but keen on the idea.

City to close McCall Lake Golf Course in 2014, development plans on the table

The city is closing McCall Lake Golf Course in a bid to balance green fees for all city courses, officials say.

Golfers will have access to the northeast city golf course until the end of the 2014 golf season.

City officials are saying the golf course imposes “significant operating and capital costs.”

RVC rezones for new golf course, boutique hotel

Rocky View County (RVC) council approved the rezoning of a piece of land in the northwest area of the county near the Hamlet of Madden to accommodate a new golf course, boutique hotel and individual cabins.

Council approved the move by a 7-2 vote on Nov. 6, with Bearspaw councillor Al Sacuta voting for this time around after being against the same motion a year prior.
