Outdoor WiFi on its way to Grande Prairie

By the end of the year, residents of Grande Prairie will be able to tap into free outdoor wireless Internet in places such as Muskoseepi Park and South Bear Creek.

The City of Grande Prairie’s corporate services committee approved what should be the last piece of infrastructure in the wireless project, valued at more than $4 million so far.

Internet key to keeping rural communities connected: Fergstad

Local business owner Bobbi Fergstad is expanding Peace Country connectivity through her new company, The Rural Link.

Fergstad started the business in July 2012 to help bring quality Internet service to rural communities that have struggled with access from large providers.

Fergstad spoke at a Rotary Club meeting recently to emphasize the importance of keeping rural communities connected.

Strathcona County shelves online vote for 2013

EDMONTON – Strathcona County residents won’t be able to cast their ballots online in October’s civic election.

Strathcona County council learned Tuesday that Municipal Affairs Minister Doug Griffiths would not make changes to legislation to allow online voting in October’s civic election, after St. Albert and Edmonton city councils last month defeated proposals for Internet voting.

Community attempts to woo businesses to Petrolia Mall through the Internet

EDMONTON – With the foreclosure process on a deteriorating Edmonton strip mall now complete, community volunteers are turning to the Internet in their efforts to see the site restored to its former glory.

Petrolia Mall, at 114th Street and 40th Avenue, was built in the 1960s and was once a dynamic and vibrant part of the neighbourhood.
