Revitalization levy public hearing Thursday

A public hearing is set to go this Thursday on a community revitalization levy that could go a long way in changing the face of downtown Cochrane.

Town council gave first reading to the community revitalization levy plan that calls for tapping into the educational tax and municipal property tax for 62.5 acres of largely undeveloped land to fund four major public infrastructure improvement projects.

Council puts off decision on levy fees

AIRDRIE – City council has tabled an off-site levies bylaw, after developers from the community came forward to express their concerns about some of the proposed fees.

Off-site levies are charges given to new developments. The fees help the City of Airdrie recover the funds that are needed to make infrastructure improvements, such as new or expanded water/sanitary sewer facilities, and new or expanded roads.

More time for levy plan

City of St. Albert staff and representatives of the development industry need more time to hash out a new plan for offsite levies, city council heard Monday.

City staff came before council at their regular meeting Monday to give a report on progress of meetings with the Urban Development Institute to figure out a new framework for offsite levies, which he said was going slower than expected.
