Leading the way with innovative design for streets and new neighbourhoods

As our city continues to grow, change and become increasingly diverse, our planning and design strategies need to become more responsive and adaptive. This is evident as Edmonton is continuing to lead the way with two new policies governing how we design new neighbourhoods and streets around the city in the future.

Mature neighbourhood doubt

On Wednesday, April 3, Strathcona County councillors, members of administration and concerned residents met at an open house to discuss details for the Mature Neighbourhood Strategy.

The open house, held at Strathcona County’s community center, included information on the mature neighbourhood initiative that would create a policy focusing on Sherwood Park’s older communities. The proposed plan has so far received mixed reactions from the public.

Sturgeon aims to divide county into neighbourhoods

Sturgeon County’s future will look a lot more neighbourly under a proposed municipal development plan that splits the county into 10 different zones called neighbourhoods.

County residents got their first look at the final draft of the county’s new municipal development plan (MDP) at an open house Monday night. A second open house is planned for Wednesday night.

Strategy making old new again

A new project undertaken by Strathcona County administration to identify and address redevelopment opportunities for Sherwood Park’s mature neighbourhoods has been met with mixed reviews from residents.

The Sherwood Park’s Mature Neighbourhood Strategy aims to address possible modifications to existing buildings and development of empty sites in the community’s older neighbourhoods.
