MD approves growth plan

The MD of Foothills received no opposition to its growth management strategy, however, councillors were reminded the whole municipality is connected.

MD council approved the Foothills’ growth management strategy on April 10 in High River. During the public hearing, which was attended by approximately 15 people, the MD received praise for the 45-page document from residents who spoke at the public portion of the meeting.

County of Grande Prairie rebranding plan dropped

County of Grande Prairie ratepayers paid about $60,000 for an incomplete rebranding project.

County councillors voted to abandon the branding and visual identity project at Monday’s regular meeting.

The project was brought forward to councillors with a recommendation to extend the consultation contract until the end of this year.

Public shows support for regional water plan

Foothills residents like what they see in a plan to establish a shared water system between four municipalities.

An open house outlining the potential of a Quad Regional Water Partnership (QRWP) between Black Diamond, Turner Valley, the MD of Foothills and, in the future, Longview to share water resources was held at the Black Diamond Municipal Building on March 12.

Council puts brakes on some bike route plans

EDMONTON – Angry homeowners and businesses won a partial victory Wednesday when councillors put part of this year’s bike route construction on hold for more consultation.

Many of the 20 speakers at the transportation committee were upset about plans to eliminate street parking for the bike network, particularly along much of 76th Avenue from 78th Street to 100th Street.

Open house being held on East Hill, Timberlands Town Centre plans

An upcoming open house will give people a chance to view and comment on amendments to the area structure plans of two Red Deer neighbourhoods.

Amendments to both the East Hill Major Area Structure Plan and the Timberlands Town Centre Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan will be the focus of the public open house on March 14, from 2 to 7:30 p.m. at the Balmoral Bible Chapel, near the intersection of 55th Street and Rutherford Drive, with presentations going from 3 to 5 p.m.

City endorses Airdrie Fire Department’s 10-year plan

Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) recommended the City build its next fire station in Williamstown or Reunion in its 10 Year Fire Master Plan, presented to council, March 4.

The $815,000 fire house, which is expected to be completed in 2014, will replace the Main Street location originally slated for the Gateway area in Airdrie’s northwest.
