Residents preview plan for new cemetery

In a continued effort to engage McMurrayites on the proposed Real Martin Drive cemetery, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo held a public information session Thursday evening in the Casman Centre amphitheater.

“This is our third engagement for the Real Martin Drive cemetery,” said Lonnie Pilgrim, engineering capital technician with the municipality. “The first engagement discussed with the community the need for a cemetery, informing them of the need. The second engagement determined location with an ‘OK’ from the community, and now that we have the location determined we want to come back and give some visual, preliminary looks of how the cemetery could look, and give the exact location, and just keep gathering feedback from the community, as we did in the prior two when the project started in 2010.”

Ex unveils big plans

Expected costs and conceptual designs for the redevelopment of Exhibition Park were finally revealed to the public Wednesday – and the vital part of Lethbridge’s economic and social health may be getting a nearly $91-million overhaul.
A new 250,000-square-foot trade and convention centre and a new 75,000-square-foot dedicated Agriplex highlight the proposal, with an anticipated full completion date of August 2018.

Stony Plain Fire Department receives the acceptance of implementation plan

STONY PLAIN – The Town of Stony Plain Council has unanimously approved the Stony Plain Fire Department Operational Plan Implementation Report.

The fire department will receive one full time firefighter in each of the next three years and additional ones in 2013 and 2015. The Town allotted the funds for the extra firefighters in the budget for both of those years. The 2013 budget has allocated $78,500 for the new fire fighters coming into the detachment.

Exhibition Park redevelopment plans may be public in new year

Today Rudy Friesen, General Manager of Exhibition Park, provided an update on the redevelopment plans for Exhibition Park.

The update outlined the work completed to date by a joint Committee, which is made up of members from Exhibition Park Board of Directors, City Council, a member each from the Chamber of Commerce and County of Lethbridge, and a member at large. The joint committee was formed in 2009 to specifically examine redevelopment.
