Edmonton’s pothole-riddled neighbourhoods to receive $9M worth of repairs

EDMONTON – Crumbling neighbourhood roads will see an extra $9-million worth of repairs this year to deal with conditions one city councillor described as “abysmal.”

This winter’s heavy snow and the freeze-thaw cycle combined to create one of Edmonton’s worst pothole seasons in years, and city councillors voted Wednesday to marshal additional resources to fight the problem.

Alberta warned about aging roads

The state of Alberta’s highways is getting worse — but Transportation Minister Ric McIver says it’s all part of the Tory government’s plan.

Whatever the strategy, the head of the organization representing small counties and municipal districts is warning that Alberta’s rural road system desperately needs more repair or the province risks losing some highways.

Road repairs on horizon after mayor gives rough ride to transportation boss

EDMONTON – There could be relief in store for bump-weary Edmonton drivers, after a council committee recommended Wednesday spending up to $12 million on extra street repairs.

Work grinding about 10 centimetres from sections of 24 arterial roads in poor shape around the city and repaving them could be underway this spring if council agrees, transportation operations manager Brice Stephenson said.
