Gondola ride from river valley to downtown proposed for Edmonton

EDMONTON – Rossdale could one day be just a gondola ride away from downtown under two proposals for a river valley transportation system that have caught the city’s eye.

Two companies say they can build a mechanical people-mover from the old Epcor power plant to Jasper Avenue and 104th Street within a $34.4-million budget, which also covers a promenade over the water, according to a city report.

Funding approved for project to carry people into river valley

EDMONTON – A $35-million project to whisk visitors from 104th Street down the steep banks of the North Saskatchewan River is set to be complete by 2016, although details about what the lift will look like — and be called — must still be decided.

The idea of building a gondola, elevated tram, or funicular that runs from downtown into the Rossdale community has been discussed for years.
