Wages for Suncor’s oilsands workers will go up 10.5% over three years after the oil company’s union ratified a new agreement.
The agreement, ratified by the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union’s national energy committee Tuesday, raises wages by 3.25%, 3.5% and 3.75% for each of the three years of the deal, respectively.

CALGARY — Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Alberta were the highest of any province in the country in January, according to Statistics Canada.
The federal agency reported Wednesday that earnings in the province reached $1,090.33. That was down 0.4 per cent from December. However, it was up 3.6 per cent on a year-over-year basis.

At Stratus Pipelines in booming Grande Prairie, general manager Errol White is posting help wanted ads and bumping up wages, sweetening the pot with extra training and footing the bill for housing and food.
Those are all signs that Alberta’s long-looming labour shortage has arrived in Grande Prairie, and White is on the front lines.
“It’s next to impossible to find people; we’re getting into wage wars at this point,” White said.

The federal agency reported Wednesday that average earnings in the province were $1,085.22 for the month, down 0.3 per cent from August but an increase of 4.0 per cent from a year ago.
