Calgary Airport Authority open to looking at connecting Airport Trail to ring road

Calgary Airport Authority’s CEO said he’s open to easing a rule that would dead-end the Airport Trail and tunnel extension before Metis Trail once that $295-million roadway opens next year.

The airport agreed the city could cut a tunnel road beneath its new runway, but only on condition that the road end at the small 36th Street N.E. when it opens.

Despite few YYC customers, high hopes rein for Calgary’s airport bus

More than 1,000 people ride Calgary Transit’s airport express bus weekly, but only 30% of those are getting on at YYC, says a report going to the city’s transportation committee Wednesday.

And of those getting on at the airport, only 35% are travellers, with the remaining passengers people who board downtown and along Centre St. N.

Villeneuve airport expected to soar over challenger

A proposed airport in Parkland County won’t change plans to make Villeneuve into a hub for business and medevac flights, say locals.

Parkland Airport Development Corp. announced earlier this month that it planned to build an airport in Parkland County near Highway 16A and Highway 60 about five minutes west of Edmonton.

Objections raised over possible restaurant closure from airport expansion

The Medicine Hat Airport expansion plans could result in the restaurant being closed and some Hatters are signing a petition asking the city to reconsider.

“The restaurant makes the best breakfast and the best homemade hamburgers in the city,” said Dallas Bewley, who is a ramp agent at the airport. “The restaurant does not only serve the flying public. We just want to keep what we already have.”

The expansion plans are still in the design phase and various options are being considered, said Abdul Khan commissioner of development and infrastructure for the city.

“There will still be an opportunity for public consultations too,” said Khan.

Group planning airport for Parkland County

EDMONTON – If a group of pilots and investors has its way, a new airport in Parkland County just west of Edmonton could handle the corporate, charter and medical flights that would be lost at Edmonton City Centre Airport.

The Parkland Airport Development Corp. wants to build an airport on farmland south of Highway 16A and west of Highway 60, about five minutes west of Anthony Henday Drive.

Edmonton council looking to restart troubled City Centre Airport expropriation process

EDMONTON – After a previous attempt failed to get off the ground, Edmonton is looking at relaunching its move to expropriate the City Centre Airport.

City council agreed last October to go ahead with the process as part of plans to turn the 217-hectare site into an environmentally sustainable community for up to 30,000 residents.

City, county councils to discuss future of County Airport

It’s good for business – but it’s losing money.

So local taxpayers are subsidizing Lethbridge County Airport, though relatively few use it.

That’s why city and county councils will meet Monday morning to discuss the facility’s future. They’ll review reports outlining the airport’s current status and the possibility of redeveloping some of its land holdings as retail centres.
