CALGARY – Construction of a new racetrack/casino entertainment centre in Balzac, near the CrossIron Mills shopping centre, will begin as soon as the frost is out of the ground.

Franklin Daines said he will take the necessary steps, including applying for rezoning and development permits. The land is currently zoned for single family dwelling and duplexes under the City of Red Deer’s Land Use bylaw.

With a development permit approved by the City of Grande Prairie’s community growth committee in, the Great Northern Casino can go ahead with plans to expand.
While the expansion will not increase the number of tables or slot machines in the casino, it will add some kitchen space, along with a bigger, better stage and more room to dance.

A proposed horse racing track in Balzac may at long last be gaining ground with a $13 million loan from a casino, developers say.
United Horsemen of Alberta says it has made a deal with Century Casinos to fund the long-proposed horse track and entertainment area. If approved, it would feature 5.5 furlongs (0.7 miles) of race track, and a casino with 625 gambling machines, a bar, a lounge, restaurant facilities, an off-track-betting area and an entertainment space.

Long-vacant lands in St. Albert’s southeast corner could see development very soon thanks to a pending deal.
The lands, spanning from Campbell Road in the west to Veness Road in the east and from Boudreau Road in the north to Anthony Henday Drive in the south, are owned by Apex Casino owner Bruce McPherson, but he said Monday that he has a deal in the works to sell the roughly 60 acres to a developer.

With their interior all spruced up, Apex Casino is refurbishing the exterior to match.
Work started recently on a $1.5-million renovation on the outside of the casino, located in Campbell Business Park, which will see a canopy added to the south entrance so patrons can be dropped off in comfort.
