Housing starts are already close to 2012 numbers

With three months remaining in 2013, local builders had nearly exceeded the number of housing starts recorded in Red Deer during all of last year.

Home starts stay brisk

Residential construction continues at a brisk pace in Red Deer, with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. reporting 62 housing starts last month.

That tally, which included 40 single-detached homes and 22 units in multi-family projects, was up 19 per cent from April 2012, when there were 52 starts.

Sharp rise in Edmonton housing starts in April

EDMONTON – Housing starts in the Edmonton census metropolitan area totalled 1,503 during April, compared to 967 a year earlier, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. said Wednesday.

Housing starts down for April, but YTD still up

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation recently released housing start data for the Lethbridge area, and although housing starts were down last month, year to date starts are still better than last year.

Calgary housing starts expectations on the downside

CALGARY — Expectations for housing starts are on the downside in the Calgary region, according to the Conference Board of Canada.

A report released Friday said expectations for starts are negative in the Calgary census metropolitan area in both the short and the long term.

Housing starts take big jump in March

Housing starts took a big jump in March, the Census Bureau reported Tuesday.

Total starts were running at a 1.036 million seasonally adjusted annual rate; single-family housing starts were running at a 619,000 rate, Census said.

Housing increase in first quarter of 2013

Canadian Home Builders’ Association—Lethbridge Region recently reported that housing starts for Lethbridge in the first quarter of 2013 are showing a 55% increase over 2012.

The biggest jump was in the multi-family starts: 32 for 2013 over 10 in 2012.

Edmonton housing start numbers for March among best in Canada

EDMONTON – The pace of housing starts in the Edmonton region outpaced the national market in March, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

The national agency reported Tuesday 1,176 homes were started in the month, up 14 per cent from March 2012.

Calgary region housing starts off in March

CALGARY — Total housing starts in the Calgary region were down in March compared with a year ago, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

The agency said Tuesday that the number of starts in the Calgary census metropolitan area was 890 units during the month, down from 1,069 for March 2012.

ALMOST 200,000 HOUSING STARTS IN FEBRUARY

According to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), 195,087 homes were started in Canada in February, a trend of the six-month moving average of monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR) of housing starts.
