Canada building permits up 1.7 percent in Sept, after jerky summer

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Increased plans for housing construction helped edge the value of Canadian building permits up by 1.7 percent in September after permits were whipsawed by a gain and loss of more than 20 percent in July and August.

Apartments, commercial renovation cause spike in building permits

A new apartment complex and a major commercial renovation pushed September’s building permit numbers well above the same figures in 2012, according to figures released Wednesday by the City of Medicine Hat’s Planning Department.

RVC stands by decision

Rocky View County (RVC) is standing by its decision to require the Trading Post in Bragg Creek to apply for a development permit before rebuilding in order to prevent a repeat of the damage done this past June, and to protect neighbouring property.

Value of Red Deer permits dips below 2012 figure

Permit pace quickens in city

In terms of new residential construction, single-family homes saw the largest number of permit applications in August, rising to 413 permits — up 20 per cent over 345 during the same month last year, says the City of Calgary.
