New riding proposed for Fort area

Fort Saskatchewan residents may be united in the near future, as a submission has been put forward for the redrawing of the province’s federal electoral map.

Currently, the Fort is divided between two ridings: Edmonton-Sherwood Park, represented by MP Tim Uppal; and Vegreville-Wainwright, represented by MP Leon Benoit.

Recently, however, the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Alberta submitted its report for redistribution to the chief electoral officer of Canada.

Area politicians unhappy with potential riding

The mayor of Taber doesn’t mince his words when reacting to a plan to rearrange federal electoral districts in southern Alberta.
“This thing is nasty,” said Ray Bryant. “Looking at the Medicine Hat constituency and tying in everything to the south all the way right to Waterton, it’s nasty looking for someone to be responsible for that area.”
On Wednesday the Federal Electoral Boundary Commission tabled its final proposal to redraw voting districts to add six seats in Alberta. The revised plan would add Cardston Ñ close to a four-hour drive from Medicine Hat Ñ and areas south of Lethbridge to the local riding.

Despite the ups and downs of economy the demand for local Western riding instructors is on the rise, says local coach

A local western horse coach with extensive experience in the field, says there is a need for more such qualified coaches in Parkland County.

Ruth Wagner, a Parkland County resident has been working in the Western equine field for 25 years but noted she isn’t seeing any peers with equal time in the activity.
