EDMONTON – An $8 billion natural gas-to-liquids plant for the Fort Saskatchewan area moved a step closer Tuesday as South African energy firm Sasol Ltd. announced it has purchased a 526-hectare site.

CALGARY — An $8-billion natural-gas-to-liquids fuel plant to be built in Alberta will be delayed for at least a year, South African energy company Sasol Ltd. signalled Monday.
The company had been expected to make a decision by the end of December on whether to proceed with a $200-million front-end engineering and design (FEED) study of the proposed project — if successful, construction could have started as early as 2015 and would be concluded in about four years.

The latest playing in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland has opened a regional office.
Sasol, the South African company that is proposing to build a gas-to-liquids facility near FortSaskatchewan, opened the doors on a location in Sherwood Park.
Debbie Pietrusik, Sasol’s corporate relations manager, said the offfice is a temporary site the company will use to maintain local contacts with various stakeholder groups in the region.
The office is located on Sherwoord Drive, across the street from the Strathcona County office building.
