Numbers on the rise at County Sportsplex

The County of Grande Prairie Sportsplex has been open for just about five months and so far, the user numbers appear to be on a steady incline.

“Well we weren’t thinking that we were going to do that great right away because we opened in the middle of hockey season, but the user groups did turnout,” said Ramona Rollins, general manager.

City seeking input for CKC sports field development

The ball is finally rolling into the early stages of development for the new sports field at the Community Knowledge Campus (CKC).

Community members are invited to join the City of Grande Prairie and its public and Catholic high school partners for its first open consultation session Wednesday evening, to generate discussion for the impending field design.

Councillor, business owners make downtown arena opinions public

Despite some recent controversy regarding the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s continued expropriation of downtown properties for the purpose of constructing a sports and entertainment complex, the representatives go before council again Tuesday evening, seeking permission to take control of two more downtown properties.

Sportsplex has impact

The opening of the County of Grande Prairie Sportsplex has already had an immediate effect on sports groups and organizations throughout the county, city, and neighbouring communities.

Teams from the Grande Prairie Minor Hockey Association, as well as the Clairmont Minor Hockey Club, were some of the first to book ice in the dual rink facility.
