City expanding project using Bluetooth data to give drivers travel times

Calgarians know where they’re going and now, more of them will know how long it’ll take to get there.

The success of a project that uses available Bluetooth data from vehicles on Deerfoot Tr. to calculate average travel times and display the information on electronic message boards along the city’s busiest traffic artery has prompted an expansion.

ICE revisions approved

Council voted to revise the ICE routes returning from Calgary in the morning to increase reverse-flow ridership, attempting to better utilize the service, May 21.

While ICE has been successful transporting people to Calgary in the morning and back to Airdrie in the afternoon, the reverse trips only account for roughly two per cent of total ridership.

Red Deer mobility playbook proposes balance

How people get around the city now may not be the same 50 years from now.

A draft of the future framework of the city’s potential transportation network was on display by the City of Red Deer. Jeremy Bouw, City of Red Deer divisional strategist, said the mobility playbook proposes a shift to accommodate balance between walking, driving, transit and cycling.
