Future buyers of newly built homes got an early Christmas present of sorts with the passing of Bill 5 earlier this week in the Alberta legislature.
The bill, known as the New Home Buyer Protection Act, mandates mandatory warranties on all new homes built in Alberta, effective fall 2013.

The provincial government has taken the first step in passing legislation aimed at protecting new home buyers in Alberta — a move which could add up to $2,000 to the cost of each new home.
