At an average of $860,000, houses again costliest in Westbrook Estates

EDMONTON – Houses in Edmonton’s priciest neighbourhood are worth almost four times their counterparts in the city’s cheapest area, but one community activist thinks that’s about to change.The average single-family home in southwest Westbrook Estates had an estimated market value of $860,000 on the annual assessment day last July 1, making it once again Edmonton’s most expensive place to buy lodgings.

Long-term plan for Airport Trail could cost city $322 million

CALGARY — Turning Airport Trail into a major corridor that joins one side of northeast Calgary to the other by 2039 will eventually cost the city more than $300 million, on top of what’s been spent on the airport tunnel.

A new city report describes the costs that will face future city councils to construct the interchanges and upgrades from Deerfoot Trail to Stoney Trail.

Warranty move to cost up to $2,000 per home

The provincial government has taken the first step in passing legislation aimed at protecting new home buyers in Alberta — a move which could add up to $2,000 to the cost of each new home.

First reading was recently given by the Alberta legislature to the New Home Buyer Protection Act, which would make warranty coverage for new homes mandatory in the province.
