Tax rate up less than 1 per cent

Strathcona County residents can expect to receive their tax notices in the coming weeks, following the final approval of the 2013 property tax rate by county council on Tuesday, April 23.

According to associate commissioner of Corporate Services George Huybregts, the final approval for the county’s tax rate is like an annual “right of spring” and might be a happy surprise for some residents, as the rate went up by less than one per cent.

Alberta forecast to lead Canadian economic growth in 2014

CALGARY — Alberta’s economic growth this year will be second only to Newfoundland & Labrabor, but Wild Rose Country will top the nation in 2014, according to a new forecast by RBC Economics.

The forecast said Newfoundland & Labrador will lead the country in Real Gross Domestic Product growth this year at 5.1 per cent followed by Alberta at 3.0 per cent.
