Redford vows to hold fiscal course despite oil price drop

CALGARY— The Tory government will make some adjustments to deal with falling oil prices but intends to stay the course when it comes to its budget plans, Premier Alison Redford said Wednesday.

The price for West Texas Intermediate crude dipped to $85 US a barrel on Wednesday — its lowest mark since July — compared to February’s provincial budget estimate of $99.25. If oil averaged $85 for the year, that could blow about $3 billion out of the government’s $40.2-billion revenue projections.

Proposed budget could raise municipal taxes by 6.75 per cent

Cochrane town council was presented with a draft of the 2013 budget during their Oct. 22 meeting, and the numbers indicate that property owners’ taxes could go up 6.75 per cent when incorporating a 1.38 town-wide increase and the town’s 5.37 per cent offer to the International Association of Fire Fighters’ (IAFF).

Budget now $127.8 million for Lethbridge hospital project

YYC expansion on-time and on-budget

Most of the news of late has centred on the Airport Trail tunnel. While the rest of the $2 Billion dollar runway and terminal expansion at YYC has quietly moved along, on-time and on-budget. The new runway opens in May 2014, while the terminal will welcome passengers starting in October 2015. Council wants to keep tax increase at 4.7 per cent

Okotoks town councillors are aiming for a slightly lower municipal tax increase for the Town’s 2013 budget than they approved last year.Councillors approved a list of guidelines and priorities for the deliberations of the Town’s 2013 budget last week.
At the top of the list is a commitment to limit any potential increases to the municipal share of property taxes to 4.7 per cent, the combined rate of population growth and inflation. Councillors approved a five per cent increase in municipal taxes almost a year ago for the 2012 budget.
