LRT extension key to Mill Woods transformation

EDMONTON – City staff are finalizing details on several key projects they hope will help transform the heart of Mill Woods into the busy, urban core as originally intended.

The first plans in the 1970s for the neighbourhood of Mill Woods Town Centre called for 10,000 people — seniors to young adults — living in a walkable, mixed-use and dense urban core; not the large-scale parking lots with missing sidewalks that dominate much of the site now.

Calgary aldermen want to flush plans to turn aging Eamon’s Camp gas station into $1.4 million bathroom

Two Calgary aldermen want to flush a city administration plan that suggests turning the historic Eamon’s Camp building into a LRT loo.

One of several options in a report coming before the city’s transportation committee Wednesday calls for converting the shuttered northwest gas station into an Park and Ride bathroom, which would cost nearly $1 million more than already allocated to the facility.

Plans for Old Strathcona LRT face delays

EDMONTON- Planning for an Old Strathcona LRT line likely faces continued delays after councillors balked Wednesday at doing work unlikely to be needed for years.

The so-called central area circulator is a low-floor LRT loop intended to link Bonnie Doon Mall, the University of Alberta and downtown, passing through some of Edmonton’s most densely populated neighbourhoods.

Private firm set to build, run LRT line

A federal threat to withhold hundreds of millions in funding has forced city councillors to commit to having a private company run the southeast LRT line.

The public-private partnership now being proposed would cover construction, ongoing maintenance and daily operations for the line to Mill Woods, rather than leaving operations to Edmonton Transit.
