EDMONTON – Plans for redeveloping Strathearn Heights are heading back to city council after sitting on the shelf for five years.
The plans to replace 500 aging townhouses with a mixture of 20-storey residential towers, low-rise apartments, new townhouses and commercial space were passed by council in 2008, but put on hold after the economy slowed.

There’s no money for pro sports arenas in the federal government’s budget, but part of the downtown arena district could see a federal boost in funding, says Edmonton-Spruce Grove MP Rona Ambrose.
“What we do have allocated, which I think is good news for the Edmonton downtown arena rejuvenation project is a community improvement, that’s specifically there to fund recreational facilities,” she said.

One Red Deer city councillor wants to put an end to the controversial yet award-winning bike lane pilot project.
On Monday, Coun. Chris Stephan put forward a notice of motion to discontinue the bike lane pilot immediately and for city administration to prepare a plan to remove the lanes that have resulted in the loss of on street parking and motor vehicle lanes.

The petroleum industry is hailing a provincial plan to streamline and speed up approvals of energy projects.
But the province said the change to a single industry regulator would also bring tougher penalties for polluters.
