City targets complaints from developers

A pilot project designed to address developer complaints that the city’s planning process is too lengthy and complex has been launched as part of the Transforming Planning initiative.

Under the project, a research and development phase before the city implements its new system, project applications will be submitted and reviewed within the new planning process.

The applications will have the same status as any other approved project at the city.

Variety of projects planned in town’s 2013 budget

Highlights of the Town of Sylvan Lake’s budget, which was passed unanimously by councillors Monday night, include:

• a municipal census is planned for 2013 at a cost of $27,000.

• a new parade float is budgeted at $30,000.

• detailed design of a new fire hall will be completed early in 2013 with construction planned to begin in the fall. The budgeted cost of construction is $3.8 million.

Update on Park infrastructure projects given

Infrastructure projects throughout the province have been designated as one of the reasons Alberta is facing a budget deficit, but Strathcona County seems to be reaping the benefits.

At the most recent Sherwood Parkand District Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Strathcona-Sherwood Park MLA Dave Quest gave an update on various local builds, starting with the Strathcona Community Hospital.
