Calgary ranks last on list of Canada’s most walkable cities

CALGARY — Calgary was ranked the least walkable in a Top 10 list of Canada’s biggest cities obtained Tuesday.

Toronto, Edmonton and Brampton were considered more pedestrian-friendly in a report being billed as the first countrywide, apples-to-apples comparison of walkability.

The results were calculated by Walk Score, an American company that “measures how easy it is to live a car-lite lifestyle.” Its online tool looks at the distance between addresses and amenities such as grocery stores, restaurants and schools.

Canadian banks rank as country’s most valuable brands: Brand Finance

TORONTO – Canadian banks continue to come out on top as the country’s most valuable brands while energy and resource companies saw a notable decline in the last year, according to Brand Finance Canada.

The list released Wednesday, which analyzed brand performance of Canadian companies as of Jan. 1, named the Toronto-Dominion Bank (TSX:TD) as the most valuable brand in Canada with a worth $10.4 billion.

Calgary trumps T.O. in real estate ranks

They beat us badly in the Grey Cup, but Calgary has displaced Toronto as the top ranked real estate city for 2013, according to the Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2013 report from Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

According to the report, it has become challenging to acquire high quality real estate in Calgary, absorption of prime properties has reached record levels and rents are being pushed due to limited supply, a trend expected to continue in 2013, especially in office and industrial employment space. Construction will increase in the housing and non-residential arenas, but nowhere near pre-crisis levels.
