City hears province’s Roadway System Masterplan

A highway interchange at First Street, the closure of the complicated highway crossings in the city’s southwest, and upgrades to the meeting place of Highways Nos. 1 and 3, are just a few of the long-term proposals by the province made public in the City of Medicine Hat’s update to the Roadway System Masterplan.

The report outlines a dozen roads and intersections that will soon need upgrades but it also reveals the vision of Alberta Transportation, which has jurisdiction over highways running through the city.

Tender approved for Scenic Drive North extension

Lethbridge city council today approved an $11-million tender for paving and other surface works for the Scenic Drive North extension project.

In addition to surface works for the new 1.7-kilometre section of new two-lane roadway between 5th Avenue North and Stafford Drive North, the project includes a new access road to the city’s waste water treatment plant, a pedestrian underpass, and pedestrian pathway connections. The tender has been awarded to the low bidder, de Graaf Excavating Ltd. of Lethbridge, and the project is scheduled for completion by November, 2013.
