Concept design for potential Parkland Airport developed

Plans for a new airport in Parkland County are taking flight, fuelled by a series of open houses designed to promote community interest in the project.

The first took place Saturday, April 27 at the Spruce Grove Pioneer Centre, drawing out a crowd of 60 residents. Led by the Parkland Airport Development Corporation, this venture is a private initiative with the purpose of replacing the City Centre Airport, which is preparing for closure.

Albertans have the travel bug for spring

CALGARY — People in Alberta and British Columbia are the most likely to travel this spring, according to the 2013 BMO Spring Travel Survey released Wednesday.

It said 88 per cent of British Columbians plan a trip this spring and will spend an average of $2,641 while 86 per cent of Albertans plan to do so as well and spend an average of $2,489.

Spruce Grove council approves development permit for new Holiday Inn hotel

Spruce Grove City Council has unanimously approved a develop-ment permit for a new four-storey Holiday Inn Express and Suites.

The hotel, which will be located south of the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre on the west side of Jenni-fer Heil Way, is the first phase of the five-acre Tri Leisure Village devel-opment that will eventually include retail stores, a medical clinic and restaurants.
