Back in the early ‘60s, when women wore their hair high and men drove finned cars half the length of a basketball court – my Auntie Harriett and Uncle Grice were the doyens of the small Saskatchewan town in which they lived.

Whenever some new fashion or gadget became all the rage, Grice (who was my grandmother’s brother) was always the first person to buy one.

Forestry Trunk Road being upgraded

Major work on the Forestry Trunk Road, the artery for countless oil and gas and forestry vehicles in the MD of Greenview, is close to completion.

Significant construction to improve the road has been going on since 2005 and has a total cost of around $15 million.

“To some degree it’s been going on a continuous basis,” said Lucien Cloutier, Director of Communications and Legislative Services for the MD of Greenview.

$3 million in upgrades planned for water system

Okotoks administration is looking for new sources of water to support additional growth and in preparation almost $3 million has been committed for upgrades to the town’s water system next year.

Council approved the first phase of the Town’s $4.37 million capital budget last week and it includes $2.96 million in upgrades to water and wastewater infrastructure.

Big bill for Sturgeon Valley

The Sturgeon Valley needs about $52 million in upgrades for future growth, says a report to county council, and the county might have to more than double its levies in order to get the money.

County council voted 4-0 Tuesday in favour of first reading for the Sturgeon Valley off-site levy bylaw. Mayor Don Rigney was absent. Coun. Don McGeachy abstained from voting due to a potential conflict of interest.

Outdated Kananaskis Country water plant set for upgrades

In a sign of the growing human pressures on Kananaskis Country, the province on Friday announced a contract to expand a water plant in the mountain playground west of Calgary.

Utilities player EPCOR has been awarded the contract in a public-private partnership (P3) to upgrade the $59.6 million water and wastewater treatment at Evan-Thomas, off of Hwy. 40 just north of the Mt. Kidd Golf Course.
