Any legitimate job offering $80,000-plus as a starting salary should be an easy sell to students in these troubled economic times, right? Wrong.

“Even in Alberta there is a poor connection in the K-12 education system to find balanced information about the oil and gas industry,” says Cheryl Knight, executive director and chief executive of the Petroleum HR Council of Canada. “The environmental messaging is much more attractive and probably easier to make interesting for students everywhere. It is a key problem that our industry faces, even just outside my door.”

TransCanada: eastern oil pipeline proposal technically, economically feasible

CALGARY – An early-stage proposal to ship as many as one million barrels a day of western crude to eastern refineries seems to be gaining traction, executives with pipeline giant TransCanada Corp. said Tuesday.

In recent months, the Calgary-based company has been floating the idea of converting part of its natural gas mainline — the eastbound main artery for natural gas out of Alberta — partly to oil service to serve refineries in eastern Canada and the U.S. Eastern Seaboard that currently rely on pricey crude from overseas.

Police say they’ve put a dent in gang activity in northeast Edmonton

EDMONTON- Six people face a total of 65 charges related to street-gang violence and drug-trafficking in northeast Edmonton, police said Tuesday.

In a news release, police said the gang — which they did not name — has been active in the Abbottsfield and Beverly neighbourhoods for several years.
