Home builders free to lobby their interests

Once again, the mayor of Calgary is annoyed because members of the home building community in Calgary exercised their right to freedom of expression.

In March, the mayor got annoyed at Charron Ungar, president of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Calgary Region (CHBA), for suggesting there is an unofficial suburban development freeze in Calgary.

Agreement sets table for better relationship

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Calgary Region (CHBA-CR) is back at the committee tables at city hall, after the association’s president, Charron Ungar and Mayor Naheed Nenshi signed a joint agreement of facts regarding residential development in Calgary.

One clever wag in the Sun newsroom said, after reading the agreement, “It’s like Mom sat them down and said no one is to blame, but we all need to do better.”

New light pollution rules could affect Calgary builders

CALGARY — A springtime public hearing to address amending the city’s light pollution policy is expected to bring new rules for the building industry.

A policy requiring builders and developers to submit lighting plans when applying for permits is expected to be added to Plan It development guidelines, the city’s planning and urban development committee heard Wednesday.
