Northlands plans renovations, prepares to compete with downtown arena

EDMONTON – Northlands CEO Richard Andersen says he’s already in talks with a top international architect to renovate Rexall Place so it can continue to host concerts after the Oilers move out.

The comments came one day after city council agreed to a deal with the hockey team owner to build a new downtown arena with no involvement from Northlands, the operators of the current facility.

$4.5-million ICU renovations for hospital complete

Renovations and upgrades to Fort McMurray’s Northern Lights Regional Health Centre are now complete.

Part of a $4.5 million capital project funded by the Alberta government, which began earlier this year, the health centre’s intensive care unit has been expanded from six to seven beds, increasing patient and staff comfort and safety. The patient recovery room has also been expanded from four beds to eight and a much needed isolation room was also added.

Storefront reno prog. gets council approval

FORT SASKATCHEWAN – The city’s storefront improvement program will be made available to all city businesses come 2013 after city council voted to include the expansion of the program in the budget.

“I think it’s a great idea,” said Coun. Stew Hennig. “I can think of  businesses in Pineview, Eastgate or behind the Home Depot that could take advantage of a program like this.”
