New marketing campaign for Calgary tourism

CALGARY — A new tourism marketing campaign is being launched based on the changing perceptions of Calgary.

The campaign is based on an online survey conducted by Return On Insight (ROI), a strategic research firm based in Alberta and British Columbia, which explored the changing perceptions of Calgary. ROI found that Calgary has become perceived as a more desirable destination among Canadians over the past five years.

Canada ranks as one of the top tourist destinations in the world

CALGARY- Canada has cracked the top 10 list, when it comes to the top tourist destinations in the world.

The World Economic Forum has released its 2013 Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index, which ranks 140 countries on their attractiveness and ability to develop their tourism industries. Researchers look at each country’s potential to boost their economy and environmental sustainability.

Alberta’s Badlands get tourism push

Hoodoos, coulees, and dinosaur bones will be this summer’s must-see tourist attractions, if Canadian Badlands has anything to say about it.

The non-profit corporation has channelled $15 million into building up southeast Alberta’s tourism potential over the past seven years and is being praised by the provincial government as a “new model for tourism development.”

Tourism in Peace River and area – what is it now, and what can it be in the future?

It is a scene newcomers to Peace River have etched into their minds – should they have beheld the rural, northern valley town of Peace River from the east for the first time.

After driving on flat, prairie-like terrain for hours, you begin the descent and no matter the season, you can’t help but take notice of the rolling hills – alive with green or white with snow, or if arriving during a particular two week span in autumn, vibrant orange. Calgary’s a tourist destination for even its citizens

CALGARY — I have a confession to make.

When I first moved to this city in October 1980, I really didn’t like it. That’s probably a mild way of putting it.

And I tried many times to get back to my hometown of Ottawa.

But fate kept me here.

I remember going for a drink one evening with an old professor of mine from university who was visiting Calgary. He was also a former well-respected editor in the newspaper industry.

Tourism marketing efforts of Calgary Stampede’s Centennial pay big dividends

CALGARY — A new report by the Canadian Tourism Commission says marketing efforts for the Calgary Stampede Centennial in 2012 paid off in big dividends for the tourism industry.

The commission said a one-time funding allocation of $5 million to the CTC by the federal government was aimed at marketing the Centennial event in key international tourism markets.
