Town running $256,000 surplus

As of the third quarter Cochrane has a projected budget surplus of $256,000 after paying for cost overruns.

Most of this money came from building permit revenues from developers, which amounted to $500,000, and has been used to deal with cost overruns in areas like the town’s engineering, planning and legal departments ($15,000; $75,000 and $70,000 respectively) plus $170,000 in increased costs for third party inspectors.

Blackfalds continues to see huge growth

The joke at the Blackfalds council meeting on Tuesday was that if you live in the town and have a two year old, he or she will have a lot of friends, being that there are now 180 so-aged tykes in the town. But with another year of unprecedented growth in the community, all residents should find it increasingly easy to find someone of a similar vintage around town, no matter one’s age.

Town looks to residents for vision

The Town of Cochrane is taking a ‘collective’ approach when it comes to how the look and feel of the downtown core will mature going into the future.

Setting up shop until the end of February, town staff are hoping residents pay a visit to their temporary downtown location to provide their input into what they want to see developed in and around the Quarry site, and how that will be integrated into historic downtown.
