Fulton Meadows becomes Edmonton’s 156th registered community league

Residents of the southeast community of Fulton Meadows can be proud to know they have an official Edmonton community league.

A resident of the neighbourhood for the past two years, Erin Sturgeon serves as the new community league president.

Sturgeon and eight other community members created the Fulton Meadows steering committee, which, over the past eight months has laid the groundwork to making Fulton Meadows an incorporated and registered community league.

South Campus Hospital emergency room open

The long-awaited South Health Campus emergency department opened Jan. 14.

The emergency room deals with some cases that can’t be handled at Okotoks Urgent Care Department, but patient numbers haven’t dropped at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre since the emergency room in Calgary opened.

The hospital is located in the south Calgary in Auburn Bay and is staffed to handle up to 200 patients a day, with 70 registered nurses and nine paramedics on staff. There are between one to five doctors in the emergency room throughout the day and a pediatrician on from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

Okotoks and Foothills back in federal riding

Voters can expect few changes in the foothills area once new riding boundaries come into effect for the next federal election.

The Macleod riding could get a new name and be a little smaller if the report of the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for the Province of Alberta is approved, but it will not sever the riding in two as considered in an earlier proposal.
