The median home owner will pay $150 more a year for taxes and commercial property owners $328 more in 2013 than they did in 2012.
On May 5, council unanimously agreed to increase the tax rate bylaw, which will see an overall 6.76 per cent increase in taxes for the average single-family homeowner, an 8.22 per cent increase for industrial properties and 9.85 per cent for commercial space.

CALGARY — Calgary’s resale housing market saw continued growth in April with MLS sales and prices on the upswing.
According to preliminary, unofficial figures on the Calgary Real Estate Board website, total MLS sales during the month of 2,381 were up 8.28 per cent compared with April 2012.

The number of building permits for residential construction increased in February compared to the same month last year, although the total value declined, says the City of Calgary.
Including things such as renovations, there were 984 permits for residential construction in February, up 25 per cent from 789 permits during the same month last year.
