Canexus raises $75M to expand oil terminal

CALGARY — Petroleum transporter Canexus Corp. is raising $75 million to fuel an expansion of its Edmonton-area terminal, it announced Thursday.

The company said the funds, the result of a bought deal financing in which 9.5 million shares will be sold to a syndicate of underwriters for $7.90 each, could grow to $83 million if an overallotment is exercised.

Food bank announces plans for 6,000-square-foot facility

Representatives from the Airdrie Food Bank revealed plans for it’s proposed 6,000-square-foot proposed facility to City council, Nov. 19.

Construction of the building, which will replace the organization’s current 2,280-square-foot facility, is expected to begin next March with a proposed completion date of fall, 2013 to early 2014.

Council endorses BCT expansion design

AIRDRIE – The expansion for Bert Church Theatre is one step closer to being constructed, now that city council has endorsed the facility design.

The long-awaited expansion of the theatre is scheduled for construction in 2013, and includes an expanded lobby, a box office and coat check, washrooms, a multi-purpose space, and a dedicated dressing room for the professional artists who perform at the theatre.

Global Pet Food Stores plans aggressive expansion in Calgary market

CALGARY — Global Pet Food Stores Inc., which has a chain of stores across Canada and into the United States, is planning an aggressive expansion in the Western Canadian market, including Calgary.

“Western Canada has been the fastest growing portion (of the chain’s expansion) over the course of the last probably 18 months,” said Jim Walker, the company’s president, who was in Calgary on Tuesday.

Municipalities upset over ORRSC fee hike

After a bit of a financial rework, some municipalities who are members of the Oldman River Regional Services Commission may be considering alternative for planning services.

Recently Director of Services at ORRSC, Lenze Kuiper, announced that the Commission hadn’t updated their rates since 1995. Rates that have been charged over the past 19 years have been set based on an assessment done in 1993.

“We had to go back in time because our rates were based on the 1993 total equalized assessment,” explained Director of Services at ORRSC, Lenze Kuiper. “We are playing catch up from 1995.”

No runway expansion for Gas City’s airport

Medicine Hat needs to maximize the airport its got before considering a multi-million dollar runway expansion, according to a report presented to the City’s Development and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday.

The assessment, prepared by city staff and consultants from SNC-Lavalin, states that there is no business case currently for a longer runway but the City should continue with planned terminal upgrades and keep its options open in the future.

Pembina Pipeline plans $670M expansion of lines

Pembina Pipeline Corp. (PPL-T 27.37 0.03 0.11%) said on Wednesday it will spend $670 million on a 108,000 barrel per day expansion of its Western Canadian pipeline systems.

The company, which reported a 2 percent rise in third-quarter profit on Tuesday, said it plans to boost the size of its Peace and Northern pipeline systems to accommodate rising production.
